Don’t name anything after me in Winners Chapel when I die — Bishop Oyedepo
Founder and presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, a.k.a Winners’ Chapel International, David Oyedepo has banned followers from naming the church after him.
He claim the church belongs to Jesus, not him.
“After I go at a very ripe old age which I know God has the plan for me, let no man here name anything after me because the owner never dies”, Oyedepo said in a sermon on Sunday.
The renowned cleric said this on Sunday while preaching that breakaway churches don’t thrive.
According to Oyedepo, he is not a church giver and warned against immortalizing him in the church.
Don’t try it, it is not God’s will, it’s not God’s plan.
“People die before they share their will in any term but this man never dies. So who will now give you the will to read?
“Lawyers, do you read the will when the man is still alive?
You can’t divide anybody’s goods till after his death and Jesus the owner of the church ever liveth. So how will you divide his church, that time won’t come”.
I once received a request from a resigning pastor to gift him a church branch, I declined the request, he said.
According to him, he would have lost the Winners Chapel ministry forever if he obliged to the pastor’s request because the church doesn’t belong to him but God.
“One of our pastors resigned and I asked him if there’s anything in getting started in his ministry, he said I want you to give me the church where I preside but I told him it’s not my own.
“You have no power to give what is not yours. I can’t give you the church perhaps you can ask God”.
“I told him to ask for any other thing that I am not a church giver, I would have lost this ministry forever if I did”, he lamented.
There have been uproars concerning this statement made by the cleric. While some said he is absolutely right others were against him.
What is your own view of this? Do you think he is right or wrong on this?
